My day on the set of Stargate SG-1.
Ok, here's how it goes, I got to visit the set because a friend of mine works there. I was very lucky to be there and allowed to get some pictures. Thanks so much guys, I really appreciated it, you all ROCK!!!!!!!!
So I got there at 11:00 am and met up with my friend, he showed me around the upstairs offices and then we went down on set. They were filming the 11th episode "Prometheus" along with "Unnatural Selection", episode 12, at the same time which is rare for them to do, but they had to because Richard was leaving that afternoon to do his interviews at Live with Regis and Kelly and some others. So, they were on a tight schedule and had to get the shots done they needed to get done with Richard in them. I recognized some of the crew and production executives I'd seen at the Gatecon conventions, some remembered me too, which was nice. Everyone was very nice and smiled at me and since I'd been on sets before and understood the whole process I knew what to do and when to talk and when to be very quiet. I think since it was a big rush day there wasn't as much kidding around on set as there might usually be, but I saw some silliness peek it's head out a few times. So, I stood and watched them film a scene that was really hard to get. It was really long and complicated and they needed to get it all in one take. It had all 4 main characters in it and lots of movement. There is this new spaceship that the government made and they're on it and it's not quite fully done yet and they're having some problems. It's a very cool looking ship, I was the first to see it I guess and believe me it's very cool. I actually only saw the inside, it's a big set, I didn't see what the outside would look like but I'm sure it's very cool. And the big surprise is the replicators are now looking human. So, Thor and his race are involved in the episode too. They had been filming him the day before, too bad I missed that. Anyway, I watched them do the scene like 4 times and every time they'd mark the take (use the clapper to show what take and scene and stuff they were on for editing) the guy would make some weird noise and say something funny, it was hysterical. Then for some reason they had to take a break to re-do something on set and reload cameras and stuff so we went for a walk around the set. We walked to the front of the ship where the front windows were and looked in at Richard and Chris and Corin. Richard saw us and waved at us, we waved back and then he said, "You know you guys are floating out in space?". Which by his view, we were. There was this black curtain with lights shining through it they used as stars in space, we were standing in front of that and from his angle it looked like we were floating in space in front of his spaceship. It was hysterical. So, we started waving our hands around like we were floating and everyone laughed. Then they started up again so we went back around and decided to go check out the rest of the set.
The Stargate! Too bad it wasn't lit up and working, now that would be great. But we had fun, I got pics of as much as I could as we checked out the whole set. I'm sure I missed lots of stuff but I didn't want to seem too eager, ya know?
The big guns. It's amazing how real everything looked. Some stuff you could tell wouldn't work, but some stuff you could swear was real. I really wanted to play with everything, but I didn't, really!
I have no idea what all those grey consoles do, but they look important don't they. The control room, where's all the people?
Danger, high voltage!!!
And there's Orion, tried to find "home" but it was too dark.
And me, my dream come true. Standing in front of the Stargate. "I'm ready to go through guys, light it up!!!" "I got me this big gun here and I know how to use it!!"
View from up in the white board room. "I'm still waiting guys, anytime!!!" "Ok, here we are at the SGC, any questions?"
"Mr. President, we have a slight problem...I'm gonna have to miss golf this weekend." "Boy this chair is comfy."
"That's where I want to go on my first mission!"
"Ok, that's it, I'm turning it on myself, how does this thing work again?????"
There's been a breach, all the people are missing, it's up to me to regain control of the Stargate and close down the mountain so no one gets out!
Well, emergency over, I closed off the Stargate, sealed up the mountain....
....now it's time for coffee.
