Wednesday 13th, Fanning Island
This is Fanning Island, it's a gorgeous place about 1000 miles south and a little west of Hawaii. The area of English Harbor is where the cruises take you. It's like a private island kind of. You have to take tenders in, it's got a few modern buildings but it's mostly huts and small buildings built to fit the surroundings. The beach is fantastic, the sand soft, the water warm, it was great.

It was a little windy but it was a warm tropical breeze so it felt good. The day was gorgeous and only got hot if you were laying in the sun baking yourself like I did for a while. There was plenty of shade and stuff to do. The food was served most of the day and I was really glad cause I had slept in and gotten there later than mom. It was about noon when I got there, mom had taken the first tender over to get an early start. The last pic is of the natives selling their wares, alot of shells and palm frond stuff.

The beach, oh the beach. The color of the water was beautiful, clear and warm. The waves weren't bad cause it was in a protected cove kind of so it was nice to swim in too.

It was very flat, no mountains or hills, just long stretches of beach and palm trees and flowers and beauty.

More beach, did I mention I like the beach. There were 3 sailboats anchored just off shore, it made for nice pictures. There was a large group of natives that just sat in the shade all day and entertained us with music, dancing, songs and stories, it was very cool. I couldn't believe they kept it up all day too, I was surprised they didn't get hoarse.

One of the dances, the hula style, it's so pretty to watch. I went on walkabout all over the area and got pics of lots of stuff and so did mom. So we got lots of pictures of the same thing, kind of funny. I liked this tree, the whole area was just beautiful. There were alot of non-palm trees too, so many of them were in flower too it was all just gorgeous. The last pic is the main stretch of beach and swimming area, the pier for the tenders is on the left. There was a line to go back to the boat when I came in, I was surprised everyone was going back so early. I took the last tender back at 4, there was no line then, hehehe.

A few shots of me posing in the water with the boats. The swimming are didn't get very deep but it was still nice to swim in and just laze around in. It came up to just above my waist at the deepest point.
