Saturday 16th, Nawiliwili, Kauai
We docked at Nawiliwili, it's on the right side near the bottom, by the airport.
Mom got these pics as she left the boat for our tour.
The bus ride to our tour was long as usual, but the scenery was nice. Kauai is very green and lush. We took a boat ride up a river to Fern Grotto. It was a very cool forest with a nice path up to the grotto. They had a band and dancers on the boat for entertainment and they did a show for us once we got to the grotto too. It was a very pretty place and lots of people get married there.
It's like a small cave with ferns hanging down from above. It's a rainforest as well so was very wet and slippery. There were also all these wild chickens and roosters running around, what a strange thing to hear in a forest, roosters crowing.
After that we floated back down the river and got back on the bus to finish the tour around the island. It had been raining pretty hard but then would stop all of a sudden, then drizzle again, then stop. It's the wettest part in the united states, maybe even the world. This is just some scenery of the island. That's the coconut tree farm that was used in the opening sequence of Fantasy Island, where Tattoo yells, "The plane, the plane."
Then we stopped at a very pretty waterfall. There were more chickens and I got a mother with chicks on video.
Across the street was the river, it was actually down a big hill, we stood overlooking it. That's the field that Indiana Jones runs across in "Raiders of the Lost Ark", he's being chased by the natives and he gets on a float plane and it takes off as the natives are about to get him. It's a very cool place, green, lush vegetation, flowers, waterfalls, I can see why lots of people would want to use it in film and TV shows. Me and the waterfall, nice pic mom!!
Then I got her and the waterfall. Shortly after this it started to rain hard and we ran to the bus, making it in just before it really started to pour.
